There is a mechanic in the game called “Karma”. And it pretty much acts the same as the “real” karma in life, as far as you believe in karma of course…

Karma is displayed in little colored dots next to your name in the menu or the color of your name in social chat. The color is red (bad karma) or blue (good karma) or no color (neutral karma). If you have neutral karma you can say something in the chat and the color of your name will give away to which karma you lean most.

It’s pretty straightforward: if you do bad things: you will get negative karma. If you do good things you will get positive karma.

Positive and negative karma both have advantages and disadvantages.

So you can choose whether to finish the game with good karma or with bad karma… It does not affect your ability to conquer or win the game… However it does have its effects…

a. Effects of karma

For now known effects are the following:

  • Prices in trade posts
    • Good karma = cheap prices
    • Bad karma = expensive prices
  • Number of prisoners
    • Good karma = few prisoners
    • Bad karma = more prisoners
  • Number of warriors who join your resistance
    • Good karma = more warriors and more “out of nothing” joining
    • Bad karma = less warriors and you will always need to do something to attract warriors (for example free prisoners, clear a piece of land,…), they will not join “out of nothing” (unconfirmed)
  • Wildlife (unconfirmed)
    • Bad karma increases the radius of when wild animals will attack you
    • Good karma decreases the radius

b. Effecting karma

There are a number of ways you can increase your karma (or make it good):

  • Intimidating enemies will increase your karma
  • Some quests will also increase your karma once completed
  • Freeing land also increases your karma

There are a number of ways you can decrease your karma (or make it bad):

  • Killing enemies
  • Killing horses
